Our Journey: From One Valley Business to 30 Cities
Where It All Started
Spear was founded in 1972 by Mike Howitt with a simple idea: honest, expert pool work for San Fernando Valley homeowners. It stayed a small, family-run business focused on one thing, pools, and built its name one job and one referral at a time.
Today, Ran Neuman owns and runs Spear. He bought the business from Mike Howitt and kept its focus on pools only.
We now serve 30 cities across Los Angeles and Ventura counties, from the Valley to the Westside, the foothills and the Conejo Valley. After the 2025 wildfires, that includes rehabbing fire-damaged pools in Pacific Palisades, Malibu and Altadena.
The mission has not changed in more than 50 years: reliable, transparent pool work, with a written estimate before anything starts.
